Mouth Guards/Night Guards

Mouth GuardA mouth guard is an appliance made to protect teeth and surrounding tissue from oral trauma during athletic or physical activities. The mouth guard can be prefabricated (stock), or custom made. Custom fit mouth guards are generally more comfortable. For children, they must be changed as new teeth grow. Mouth guards can prevent serious injuries such as jaw fractures, neck injuries, concussions, and teeth fractures. Studies have reported that concussions can be decreased by almost 50% by wearing a mouth guard.

Night Guard – prevents tooth wear from grinding (bruxism). Most people grind teeth but are not aware of it. When one’s bite is perfect, minimal damage may occur, as inclines built into key teeth protect all the teeth. Stress is a common cause of grinding. Night guards properly made protect the teeth as they move sideways and forwards. Special inclines are incorporated into Dr. Jacobson’s night guards to protect both the teeth and the temporal-mandibular joint

Fluoride Guard – strengthens teeth to resist cavities. Fluoride is placed in the guard and worn for 4 minutes.

Bleaching Guard – bleaching chemicals that form hydrogen peroxide are placed in this guard to whiten teeth.
