Non-surgical Periodontics
Non-surgical periodontics are procedures to correct bone loss using scaling and root planing. Medications, such as the new drug Arestin, may be placed in moderation into deep pockets to get rid of the bacteria that cause bone loss. In addition, new drugs help the body’s immune system repair damage done by the periodontal disease.
Scaling and root planing is a process by which toxins are physically scraped off the root, thereby allowing the gum to reattach itself to the root.
In some cases, if the patient does not improve, surgery is necessary.
