Teeth Whitening
Teeth can be whitened and brightened with chemicals and light. All techniques have the same result-the difference lies in cost and convenience. Power whitening involves a light and chemicals applied in a single visit. Zoom® whitening, as seen on Extreme Makeover takes about one and a half to two hours. Home bleaching may involve using a customized tray and chemicals applied over a period of 8-10 days. At-home whitening results in a more lasting whitening, but takes greater self-discipline. Other whitening techniques use preformed trays that apply bleaching at strengths greater than can be purchased in retail stores. Strips can be bought at drugstores, but are not as strong as what the dentist can provide, and do not cover as many teeth.
